Ambassador Romuald Spasowski

On December 19, 1981, six days after the imposition of martial Law in Poland, Ambassador Spasowski requested political asylum in the United States for himself and his family. Eight months later, General Jaruzelski military junta sentenced him to death.

Spasowski was baptized a Catholic in 1985. He was 64 tehn.

In 1989 he was diagnosed with cancer. While suffering from cancer he refused to take morphine.

He died at his home in Viginia in 1995.
