Guy Burgess
- second secretary at the British Embassy in Washington, defected to
Soviet Union with Donald Maclean, also of the British Foreign
Office, in 1951.
Harold [Kim] Philby - vanished from
Beirut and was granted asylum and citizenship in the Soviet Union in
January 1963.. He warned Burgess and Maclean, which prompted their escape
from the West.
Bernon F. Mitchell and William
H. Martin - escaped via Mexico and Cuba to Moscow where they announced
their defection in 1960
